Dread Central received a press release for an Indiegogo campaign that launched to support the indie horror movie Slaybor Day*. Whilst they didn’t promote the project on the website, they received some disturbing news about the production which they felt needed to be shared with the horror community at large…

“…After reading their article on the news, I KNEW I NEEDED TO WRITE AN ARTICLE ON THIS SUBJECT”

The Indiegogo campaign** for Slaybor Day was launched by Justin Wayne (Wayne), who also wrote the movie’s screenplay and hoped to direct the movie.

However, via Dread Central and Broke Horror Fan, it has come to our attention that Wayne is a pseudonym for Justin Menoche (Menoche) – a Level III sex offender who will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Via Broke Horror Fan:

“As reported by Providence NBC affiliate WJAR, in 2011, the 23-year-old Menoche posed as a 16-year-old boy on Facebook to solicit underage girls. He worked as a substitute teacher in the Coventry and Burrillville school districts at the time. Investigators discovered child pornography on his computer.

According to Providence radio station 990WBOB, Menoche pled guilty to possession of child pornography in 2013, for which he was sentenced to five years with one to serve on home confinement and the remainder suspended with probation.

However, in 2014, Menoche violated the terms of his probation and was arraigned on new charges that exhibit a recidivist behaviour. He pled guilty and received a sentence of three years to serve for indecent solicitation of a minor and five years suspended with probation for possession of child pornography, to run consecutive.”

The use of an pseudonym appears to be an obvious attempt to hide Menoche’s disgraceful and criminal behaviour in order to finance the movie – mislead potential investors.

Thank you Dread Central and Broke Horror Fan for bringing this information to our attention. In case you’ve already donated to the Slaybor Day Indiegogo campaign, you can find out how to get a refund here.

*Based on the short movie Slaybor Day 7.

**The campagin has subsequently been suspended following the revelations of Menoche’s past.
