Earlier this year, it was revealed that Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Olpin) and Tyler Gillett (Gillett) would be “resurrecting the Scream franchise” for Spyglass Media Group (Spyglass), with David Arquette (Arquette*) set to return to reprise the role of Deputy Dewey Riley.
We have learned today (via Variety) that Spyglass has “joined forces” with Paramount. The iconic studio is set to market and distribute the new Scream movie worldwide and plans to release the untitled movie in 2021.
Plot details remain unknown at this time but the movie will be an original story co-written by James Vanderbilt (Vanderbilt) and Guy Busick. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak to serve as producers on the movie for Spyglass.
Kevin Williamson (Williamson – creator) will serve as an executive producer on the movie. Olpin and Gillett of Radio Silence (RS) will direct the movie and the third member of RS, Chad Villella, will serve as an executive producer (alongside Williamson).
Principal photography will start later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina. Even though Arquette is the first member of the cast to be revealed officially, discussions are underway with past Scream cast members – find out more in the related links below.
